HERO is open from 12 to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Please refer to the calendar for information related to national holidays and dates for scheduled volunteer projects.

Assisting with our work offers everyone an opportunity to prepare usable donated medical items and to redistribute them to the sick and the poor in our community and beyond.

Examples of the types of duties and services performed are listed below.

Duties for Warehouse Volunteers

  • Inventory and weigh supplies and DME donated from various healthcare facilities
  • Sort medical supplies
  • Count supplies
  • Repackage supplies according to their purpose
  • Fill and label boxes
  • Stack and wrap boxes on pallets
  • Load or unload supplies on transportation vehicles
  • Supervise volunteer groups

 

Volunteer Groups

  • Suggested minimum age: 11
  • Suggested group size: 4 to 15 individuals/session
  • Suggested length of volunteer session: 1 to 2 hours
  • Suggested supervision: An adult sponsor must accompany a group with 4 or more individuals under the age of 18
  • All volunteers and volunteer sponsors must read and sign the Volunteer Information Form
  • Minors will require permission via a parent’s signature
  • Groups must call in advance to schedule work sessions
Special Projects

 

HERO welcomes all groups and individuals who wish to assist with HERO’s work. Pleases call in advance to speak with the volunteer coordinator to plan special projects or to volunteer for office work.

Guideline for Volunteer Groups or Special Projects

 

  • Organize your team before contacting HERO
  • Provide HERO with the number of team members, dates available and other pertinent contact information
  • Remember that your team is responsible for providing its own transportation and refreshments
  • Dress appropriately – warehouse activity can be messy, so please wear clothes that will allow you to work comfortably and without concern
  • Be prepared to clean up after your group or project
Projects Available

 

At this time, HERO is seeking a group or groups of higher education students to assist with established projects that provide an exceptional opportunity for a group to set up a program, from start to finish, and develop ongoing funding for HERO well into the future.

  • Expand the Cartridges for Charity program
  • Establish the Cars for Charity program
Ongoing projects include:

  • Cleaning and organizing the warehouse
  • On-call availability for loading large or heavy equipment for the infirm
  • Delivering smaller orders to area residents and non-profit agencies for distribution to those in need
  • Cleaning equipment for redistribution
